Rowland Homers Twice as Sailfish Knock Off No. 9 North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball knocked off No. 9 North Greenville on Monday, as the Sailfish scored three runs in the fourth and sixth innings to win 7-5.  The 'Fish improve to 6-7 on the season while NGU falls to 8-5 with the loss.

The Crusaders struck first on the day, as a pair of first-inning singles led to a run that gave them an early 1-0 lead.  NGU held that lead into the fourth inning but Crusader starter Ryan Kirk was forced from the game in the fourth with an apparent injury.  The 'Fish greeted the new NGU pitcher with back-to-back hits, as Brandon Seltzer lined a single to right field and Connor Rowland followed with a towering three-run blast to left that scored Seltzer and Riley Herold who led off the inning with a single.

Sailfish starter Matt Leslie (Win, 1-1) was cruising through the first four innings, but ran into some trouble in the fifth inning, as a two-out single extended the inning and Jared Williams hit a two-run homer that tied the game 3-3.

Rowland was back at it in the top of the sixth, as he sent another ball flying out of Ashmore Park, this time a two-run shot that scored Seltzer who walked with one out.  Brandon Smith followed with a homer of his own, an opposite field shot for his first of the season that put the 'Fish up 6-3.

Leslie left the game in the sixth inning, and threw 5.1 innings on 83 pitches allowing six hits and five runs while striking out five.  NGU got two runs back in the sixth but Orsen Josephina came on to strike out two hitters with the bases loaded to keep the 'Fish in front 6-5.

The 'Fish got one back in the top of the seventh, as Derek Schwimer led off with an infield single and later scored on a Danny Tufariello single to center as PBA went ahead 7-5.

Josephina struck out the side in the seventh, as all five outs the senior recorded came via strikeout Monday.

Joey Hennessey (Save, 2) closed the door on the ballgame by retiring all six batters that he faced to earn the save.  The Sailfish pitchers combined to strike out 13 hitters on the day.

Seltzer and Rowland finished with two hits each on the day as Rowland drove in five runs with his two long balls and leads the team with four homers now on the season.

The Sailfish and Crusaders will play again on Tuesday to close out a two-game midweek series.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
