MELBOURNE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball rolled to a 9-0 win over Converse College on Sunday, as they closed out play at the FIT Invitational with a 4-1 record. The Sailfish improve to 10-9 overall with the win against the Valkyries.
Hannah Carlton led off the top of the second for the 'Fish with a walk, and Sarah Thomas and Kathryn Sutton reached to load up the bases with one out. Maddie Biggs singled to left to break the scoreless tie and Hayley Haas followed with a three-RBI triple to right center. Haas came around to score on an RBI bunt single from Magnolia West and the 'Fish led 6-0 after two.
PBA scored one run in the third inning as Sutton doubled to the right-field fence which plated Janie McCloskey who reached via walk.
Katherine Budnovich doubled home Kaylee Winn in the fourth, and came around to score herself on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Edmilly Molina.
Budnovich dominated in the circle on the day, as the freshman struck out 11 Converse hitters, and completed a five-inning no-hitter.
Sutton was the only hitter with multiple hits in the game, as the 'Fish picked up nine hits in total. Seven of the nine Sailfish starters picked up a hit in the game and Liz Albertini had a pinch-hit single in the Sailfish final at-bat.
PBA is now over .500 on the season and will prepare for play at the UNG Invitational in Dahlonega, Ga. on March 2-3.
