Softball Shutout in Series Opener With Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball dropped a Sunshine State Conference game to Barry University 2-0 on Tuesday evening at Buccaneer Field.  The 'Fish outhit the Bucs 4-3 in the game but couldn't muster a run in the shutout loss.  PBA drops to 5-7 with the loss while Barry improves to 7-7 overall.

Katherine Budnovich threw a complete game on the night, as the freshman struck out seven and allowed just one earned run in the loss.

Budnovich and Bucs pitcher Gabby Vallee both had shutouts going through three innings, and Budnovich and Hannah Carlton led off the fourth with back-to-back singles.  The Sailfish were not able to come up with a big hit in the inning and were kept off the scoreboard.  The Bucs got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning, as they scored two runs on just one hit in the frame.

The 'Fish had another good scoring chance in the fifth, as Kathryn Sutton and Magnolia West had back-to-back singles but were both stranded.

PBA was set down in order in both and sixth and the seventh innings to close out the game as Vallee picked up the complete-game shutout.

The Sailfish and Buccaneers will be back at it tomorrow, Feb. 20 as they close out their SSC series with a doubleheader that will begin at 5 p.m.
