Sailfish Slug Way to 13-4 Win Over SCSU

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball slugged 15 hits and scored 13 runs on Sunday afternoon in a 13-4 win over Southern Connecticut State at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.  The Sailfish won both games against the Owls this weekend and improve to 4-5 on the season as SCSU now sits at 1-3.

Christian Denton got his third start on the mound for the Sailfish, and got off to a rocky start as he allowed a two-run homer in the top of the first.  Denton settled down nicely however to allow just three runs in six innings while throwing 58 of his 75 pitches for strikes and picking up his first win of the season.

Riley Herold drove in the first Sailfish run with an RBI double to the right-field wall in the first inning, and drove in the next two runs in the third inning with a two-run single.  Brandon Smith followed with a double off the center-field fence to push the 'Fish ahead 4-2.

Brandon Seltzer drove in a run in the fourth inning as his single plated Marco Meleo, and the 'Fish added two runs in the fifth inning as Connor Rowland and Danny Tufariello hit back-to-back homers.

The sixth inning was a repeat of the third, as Herold drove in another run with a single and Smith once again doubled to the center-field fence as the Sailfish went ahead 9-3.  Tufariello drove in two more runs with a double in the eighth inning, and Dylan Tosto picked up a RBI single in his first collegiate plate appearance in the inning.

Herold finished 3-for-4 with two runs on the day, as Tufariello also finished 3-for-4 and added three RBI.  Smith and Seltzer added two hits each in the game as well for the Sailfish.

Kevin Nunez, Eli Bottenfield, Christian Horner, Brandon Smith, and Troy Klemm finished the game on the mound for the 'Fish, as they pitched the final three innings while allowing just one run.

The Sailfish will return to play on Friday, Feb. 22 as they will open up SSC play against Eckerd College at 6 p.m. at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
