WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse fell victim to the Hawks from Rockhurst University on Saturday afternoon, falling 18-8. The loss is the first of the season for the Sailfish after winning their first two on the road.
PBA got off to a slow start as the Hawks scored just 17 seconds into the game as Logan Derosia scored the first of her four goals. The Hawks (1-3) led 2-0 before PBA scored their first goal as Kate LeBlanc found the back of the net.
After the Hawks scored three straight to take a 5-1 lead with 12:24 to go in the first half. The 'Fish responded with a 3-0 run of their own as Grace Bartlinski, Anna Laskaris and Shayna Rogers all scored to cut the deficit to one at 5-4 with 8:02 to go.
Rockhurst went into halftime leading 8-4 after closing the half with three straight goals but Bartlinski scored twice within 12 seconds early in the second half to close the margin to two at 8-6. That's as close as the Sailfish got in the second half as the Hawks scored 10 goals in the second half. PBA was able to score only two more the rest of the way as Kiki Cinotti and Alyssa Yates each tallied a goal. Cinotti finished the game with four assists.
The Sailfish are back in action on Feb. 27 as they host Davenport for the second straight year at 5 p.m.
