Sailfish Women's Lacrosse Unable To Defeat Davenport

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse was narrowly defeated on Wednesday night, falling 15-13 to Davenport University at the Rinker Athletic Campus.

The Sailfish (2-2) were led by Grace Bartlinski's six goals and Kiki Cinotti's six points but were unable to overcome a 10-5 first-half deficit. PBA scored first as Bartlinski got the 'Fish on the board just a minute into action. The Panthers responded quickly with two goals to take their first lead before PBA bounced back to take a 3-2 lead thanks to goals from Bartlinski and Kate LeBlanc. The last lead for PBA came at the 20:21 mark as Julia Del Carmen scored off a feed from Cinotti.

Davenport (2-2) scored three straight as the Sailfish struggled with yellow cards in the first half, racking up five in the opening half. PBA scored just two goals in the final 20 minutes of the first half as the Panthers tallied seven in that stretch to take a 10-6 lead into the break.

The 'Fish scored four of the first give in the second half as four different players scored during the stretch to pull PBA within one at 11-10 with 16:06 to go. In addition to Bartlinski and Cinotti, Shayna Rogers and Madison Sprague found the back of the net.

PBA was unable to pull even as Davenport scored two straight to push their lead out to three with just over nine minutes to go. Rogers tallied her second goal just before the end of the period.

The Sailfish took 31 shots in the game with 25 on target while Davenport managed 30 shots and 24 on target. The big difference came off the draw control as the Panthers controlled 25 of the 30 draws.

PBA is back in action on Saturday as they take on American International at 11 a.m.
