Saints Down Sailfish With Late Fourth Quarter Run

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team fell at Flagler tonight by a score of 84-72. The loss takes the Sailfish to 1-5 on the early season and moves Flagler to 2-2.

The Sailfish came out of the gates strong with one of their best first quarters of the season offensively tonight. They shot 53 percent from the field and led 23-20 after the first ten minutes of the game. PBA guard Avree Carpenter continued to be the leader for the Sailfish offensively. She scored 22 points in the first half on an efficient 7-of-13 from the field including 5-of-5 from behind the arc.

The Sailfish got reinforcements tonight with the return of Claire Bady from injury for her first game of the season. She gave the 'Fish another play making option and contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in her PBA debut. The Sailfish cooled off from the field in the second quarter and went to the half trailing 44-38 after the Saints shot 57 percent in the second quarter.

The Sailfish did a solid job on the glass winning the offensive rebound battle 19-10 over the Saints which allowed them to take 14 more field goal attempts in the game. Unfortunately, the Sailfish and Carpenter couldn't keep up their offensive efficiency in the second half. Carpenter was held to three points after half time to finish with 25 and the Sailfish shot just 14-39 (36%) from the floor in the second half. Ciara Cumbie came up with a 12 point and 15 rebound double-double for the 'Fish, but once PBA got within two points with six minutes to play, Flagler pulled away to win by 12. The Saints were led by Tori Pierce who scored 24 points on 8-of-16 from the field.

After playing their last three games on the road, the Sailfish return home this Saturday to open Sunshine State Conference play against Eckerd College who is 1-0 on the year. PBA and the Tritons will face off at Rubin Arena at 2 p.m. on Nov. 23.
