Sailfish Fall to Sharp Shooting Tritons

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - After a three-game road trip, the Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team returned home and fell 88-59 against Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd College today at Rubin Arena. The defeat takes the Sailfish to 1-6 on the season and 0-1 in SSC play. The Tritons move to 2-0 on the year and 1-0 against conference opponents.

The Sailfish were unable to withstand the hot shooting start from Eckerd today. In the first quarter, the Tritons hit 8-of-11 threes and 75 percent overall from the field to take the 35-12 lead. Two of the Sailfish leaders Avree Carpenter and Claire Bady each were saddled with two early fouls and unable to establish an offensive rhythm. In their absence, PBA was led offensively in the first half by Kennedi Rodgers who scored a season-high 13 points in the first half on 3-of-5 shooting from three. As a team, the Sailfish were 5-of-10 from behind the arc but were only able to shoot 36 percent from the floor. The Tritons went into the half leading the Sailfish 53-26.

The Sailfish improved defensively in the second half holding the Tritons 35 points but were unable to overcome the large early deficit. Carpenter was the second-leading scorer in the game for PBA scoring 14 points on a season-low seven field goal attempts. The 'Fish were able to shoot an efficient 45 percent (9-of-20) from three but were held to 9-of-25 from inside of the arc. Eckerd had four players in double-figures led by Mikayla Kuehne who scored 19 on 5-of-5 shooting from three.

Up next, the Sailfish continue SSC play against Florida Tech at Rubin Arena on Dec. 4. The Panthers are 3-2 so far on the season and have yet to face a conference opponent.
