Sailfish Falter at Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team traveled to face Barry for its last road game of the regular season on Tuesday.

After PBA won its first matchup of the year with the Bucs in West Palm Beach, Fla. the Bucs made sure to return the favor this time around. The Sailfish had no answer for the Barry attack as the Bucs hit a scorching .425 in the match. PBA struggled to build any momentum as they mustered just a .132 hitting percentage in the match.

The Sailfish had a slow start out of the gate in the first set. Barry wasted little time gaining an 18-9 advantage thanks to an 8-3 run by the Bucs. PBA was unable to mount a comeback as the 'Fish attack was held to a .162 hitting percentage in the set. The Bucs won the set 25-15.

PBA was slightly more competitive in the second set, but the Sailfish still struggled to hold a lead. Barry kept its momentum from the previous set, getting out to an early 15-8 lead. A 4-3 run by the Bucs made it 19-11 late in the set. The Sailfish tried to fight back with a 4-1 run consisting of two kills from Jordan Rush, but the Bucs held off the 'Fish. Barry took a 2-0 lead by winning the second set 19-25.

The third set was all Buccaneers as the hosts continued to have their way with their attack. Barry posted a .414 hitting percentage in the last set as the Bucs cruised to a 25-15 victory to clinch the sweep.

Amber Rowoldt led the Sailfish with 10 kills with five digs. Sam Wolf was right behind her with nine kills, hitting .286. Rush finished with eight kills in the match. Jazz Schmidt totaled 17 assists and eight digs while Emma Pieper added 17 assists of her own. Lilly Turner led PBA with 15 digs.

The Sailfish return home to Rubin Arena this weekend to play their final two matches of the regular season. PBA will host Florida Southern on Friday and Eckerd on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
