Men's Basketball Defeats Tuskegee for Third Straight Win

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team continued its week-long road trip on Wednesday with a day game against Tuskegee.

The Sailfish picked up their third consecutive win, defeating the Golden Tigers 91-71. PBA (3-1) took advantage of several Tuskegee (0-1) miscues, outscoring the Golden Tigers in points off turnovers 17-6. The pesky 'Fish defense forced Tuskegee to commit 18 turnovers in the game which allowed PBA to run the floor, scoring 26 fast break points. The Sailfish also controlled the post, outrebounding the hosts 38-29 and scoring 50 points in the paint.

PBA started strong in the first half, getting out to an early lead over the Golden Tigers. The Sailfish led for the first 15 minutes of the game, but they struggled to gain a sizable lead over Tuskegee. The Golden Tigers tried to make a push in the five minutes before halftime. Tuskegee took a one-point lead after a 3-pointer, but the Sailfish traded buckets with Tuskegee, eventually regaining the lead. A 9-0 run from the Sailfish that included four points from Aleksa Rakic made it 43-35 PBA with two and a half minutes remaining in the half.

Tuskegee cut the deficit before the halftime break. After a Darhius Nunn 3-pointer made it 46-39, the Golden Tigers hit back-to-back threes to make it a 46-45 game at halftime. De'Ondre Jackson led the Sailfish with 11 points in the half.

The contest remained tightly contested for the first 10 minutes of the second half before the Sailfish began to pull away. With PBA leading 64-61, the Sailfish began to lengthen the gap. A 3-pointer from Dan Largey kickstarted a 10-3 run that gave the 'Fish their largest lead of the game so far.

Just two minutes later, PBA went on a 9-2 run including five points from Jules Jasmin gave the Sailfish an 84-68 lead with three minutes left in the game. Tuskegee struggled to keep up as the Golden Tigers were held scoreless by PBA for the last two minutes of the game. The Sailfish ended the game on a 7-0 run with five points from Largey leading to the 91-71 win for PBA.

Jackson led the PBA offense with a season-high 21 points, going 8-of-14 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Largey finished with 19 points, including four 3-pointers. Jasmin added 18 points to the Sailfish cause on just nine shots with eight rebounds. Nunn was the fourth Sailfish to score double digits, with 12 points and four assists. Malek Barber recorded a season-high eight rebounds.

PBA returns to the Sunshine State this weekend to play in an exhibition game against Florida Atlantic. The game in Boca Raton, Fla. will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m.
