West Palm Beach, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic University men's soccer team defeated SSC opponent Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 6-1 tonight. The offensive flurry from the No. 22 ranked Sailfish moved PBA to 9-2-2 on the season and 3-2-2 in SSC play. With the win, the Sailfish are now 7-0 at home on the season.
PBA entered tonight's game in the middle of the crowded SSC standings and in need of a home victory over the Embry-Riddle Eagles. After back and forth play in the first 25 minutes of the first half, the Eagles were the side that got on the board first. Alex O'Brien scored on a left-footed free-kick from just outside the box in the 26th minute to put the Eagles up 1-0. From that point on, the Sailfish were able to take hold of the game. It took seven minutes for PBA to equalize as
Mo Redjeb found a loose ball in the box from a
Gian Scalise free-kick and his right-footed shot beat Eagles keeper Jack Crichton. Three minutes before the break, Scalise once again played a dangerous cross into the box and
Thomas Spear rose over the defense to head home PBA's second goal. The 'Fish went to the half up 2-1, controlling 56 percent of the possession, and outshooting the Eagles 7-4.
In the second half, the performance from the Sailfish only got stronger. In the 49th minute
Cadu Cusatis continued his goal streak, moving it to six consecutive games where he has appeared. Defender
Nicolas Le Metayer got into the action in the 51st minute scoring his first goal of the season with
Guillermo Deal assisting on both the early second half goals. The depth and fitness of the Sailfish showed in the second half as they were quicker to loose ball and to press the opposition. It showed in the 55th minute whenÂ
Cadu Cusatis was brought down in the box, and captain
Claudio Rivadeneira stepped up to the penalty spot and beat Crichton to make the score 5-1Â Â
Key bench pieces impressed in their second half time with attackers
Drew Fulmer,
Luis Quintero, and
Giancarlo Triulzi each looking dangerous and creating chances in the second half, but they were unable to beat Jack Crichton who had six saves on the night. The cherry on top of a great performance came in the 89th minute when
Nicolas Boucher climbed above defenders to head home a corner from
Blake Barribeau for his first goal of the season and end the game 6-1.Â
PBA outshot the Eagles 27-5 and 12-1 on target in the game while controlling 60 percent of the possession. The win moves the 'Fish up to third place in the SSC standings with three games remaining on the season. PBA is back in action on Oct. 26 when they host (6-5-2) Eckerd College at the Rinker Athletic Campus.  Â
