Volleyball has Winning Streak Snapped Against Lynn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team returned to Rubin Arena on Tuesday to host Lynn in an important SSC matchup.

The Sailfish saw their six-match winning streak snapped at the hands of the Fighting Knights who won the match 3-0. Lynn (16-4, 7-2 Sunshine State Conference) outhit PBA (12-8, 4-5 SSC) .323-.165 in the match as the Fighting Knight front row frustrated the Sailfish attack, totaling nine blocks in the match.

Both the first and second sets were very competitive as it seemed like both teams were evenly matched. After trailing early in set one, the Sailfish built a small lead of their own at the midway point of the set. A kill by Jazz Schmidt gave PBA an 18-15 lead as it looked like the 'Fish may take the first set. The Fighting Knights fought back. With the score tied at 19, Lynn ended the set on a 6-2 run to take a one set lead over the Sailfish.

PBA put themselves in position to win a second set that consisted of seven lead changes. A 5-0 run midway through the set gave the Sailfish a 19-14 lead. Lynn responded with a 7-2 run to tie the set at 21. Jordan Rush's kill regained a one-point advantage for PBA, but Lynn scored four of the last five points to win set two 25-23.

Lynn was firing at all cylinders in the third set. The Fighting Knights hit .438 in the final set which was dominated by the visitors. Lynn led the entire set, winning it 25-14 to clinch the match.

Sam Wolf led the Sailfish with 14 kills, hitting .300 from the outside. Rush finished with a .364 hitting percentage and five kills. Jazz Schmidt's double-double consisted of a team-high 16 assists and 12 digs. Schmidt, Amber Rowoldt and Anna Gregerson tallied three blocks each.

PBA hits the road again on Friday to face Eckerd. The match in St. Petersburg, Fla. starts at 7 p.m.
