WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Palm Beach Atlantic University women's soccer team notched its second consecutive victory this afternoon with a 4-1 triumph over the Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks. In the win, four separate players got on the scoresheet as PBA moved to 6-5 on the year.
The Sailfish's top goal scorer this season got Palm Beach Atlantic on the board early. Karina Williams received a long ball from Jez Rubalcava after the redshirt-senior goalkeeper punted the ball into AUM's half. Williams then lofted a shot into the far post with her left foot that opened the scoring in the 14th minute.
Just 17 seconds later, Cheyenne Beck quickly doubled PBA's advantage as she tapped in a beautifully-placed low cross to the back post by Kylee Rullo.
As PBA maintained constant pressure throughout the entirety of the first half, Cami McKinley earned a penalty kick as she was fouled in the box with six minutes to go in the period. Jaycie Tate coolly slotted home the ensuing penalty kick to give the Sailfish a 3-0 lead going into the break.
Palm Beach Atlantic, who out-shot AUM 32-3 overall and 20-3 in the second 45 minutes, kept creating chances toward the beginning of the second half.
After Rullo and Michaela Boyd each clanked shots off the woodwork, the Sailfish expanded the lead to four, the largest advantage in any women's soccer game this year.
Kylie Meola notched the Sailfish's fourth goal of the day in the 49th minute, marking the most goals in any contest for PBA this season.
Trine Seistrup began the play out on the right wing and sent a ball into Rullo. The Cape Coral, Fla. native laid a pass off to Meola, who rocketed a shot into the top of the net to ensure triumph for the Sailfish.
Although the Warhawks got one back in the 50th minute, they could not sustain any real pressure to generate opportunities in the three-goal victory for Palm Beach Atlantic.
The goals by Beck, Tate and Meola were their firsts of the 2019 campaign, while Rubalcava, Seistrup and Rullo picked up their first helpers of the year in the competition.
The Sailfish will now travel to Daytona Beach for a battle with Embry-Riddle on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
