Sailfish Take Down No. 12 Ranked Dustdevils

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic University men's soccer team hosted an out of conference opponent in Texas A&M International University tonight. The No. 21 ranked Sailfish defeated the No. 12 ranked Dustdevils by a score of 3-0 to move to 8-2-2 on the season.

The Sailfish embarked their most difficult stretch of games this week facing two top-15 opponents. PBA dropped their first match of the week at No. 4 ranked Lynn but had to bounce back quickly as they faced another ranked opponent three days later. The Sailfish were all over the Dustdevils from the jump tonight. Forward Marc Hebbeker created the first two to chances in quick succession in the 12th minute. However, Texas A&M International keeper Josh Jones was able to deny the Sailfish forward twice to keep the game scoreless. The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when a Quenzi Huerman free kick was headed home by Hebbeker to give PBA the 1-0 lead. The 'Fish took that lead into the half outshooting the Dustdevils 11-2 in the first half and controlling 62 percent of the possession.

The Sailfish started the second half out strong, but the game reached a boiling point in the 53rd minute when a tackle from TAMIU Elias Perales resulted in a coming together between the two teams. Perales was sent off for the tackle and teammate Charlie Michel also received a red card for his actions in the scrum. After already being on the back foot for the majority of the game, TAMIU was forced to continue the game with nine players. The Sailfish were able to control possession and take advantage of the open spaces on the field after the incident. TAMIU keeper Josh Jones was able to keep his side in the game making save after save. He faced 26 Sailfish shots on the night and made 12 saves.

PBA was happy to see the return of forward Cadu Cusatis who had missed the last two games with an injury, and in the 79th minute, the senior was on the receiving end of a cross from Claudio Rivadeneira and put PBA up 2-0. One minute later, the same combination connected again. TAMIU failed to clear another Rivadeneira cross and the ball fell to Cusatis to put the game away and made the score 3-0. Cusatis has scored in the last five games he has appeared in.

PBA outshot TAMIU 26-3 overall and controlled 61 percent of the possession in a dominate performance against a ranked opponent. Up next, PBA returns to conference play and hosts Embry-Riddle on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
