Women’s Soccer Snaps Skid with Win over Lynn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team defeated the Lynn University Fighting Knights by a score of 3-1 Wednesday night, ending a four-game losing streak with the victory.

PBA started the match on the front foot as junior Karina Williams capitalized on pressure early in the game. The Dallas, Texas native beat Lynn defenders to a rebound in the box and nestled a right-footed shot into the far post side netting to begin the scoring just two minutes in.

After Williams' first tally, the Fighting Knights created goal-scoring opportunities thanks to dangerous set pieces.

LU (3-7-2, 0-4-2 SSC) then evened the competition with a header off of one of those set pieces, a corner in the 27th minute.

Despite being out-shot 9-5 in the opening half, the Sailfish were able to strike once more to regain their lead. Kylie Meola played a ball out wide to Kylee Rullo, who cut in on her favored right foot in the 35th minute. The redshirt-junior then rocketed an attempt that pinged off of the bottom of the crossbar and into the back of the net from 15 yards out.

Rullo's strike, her third of the season, gave the Sailfish a 2-1 advantage going into halftime.

Palm Beach Atlantic, who improved to 5-5 (2-4 SSC) on the year, maintained possession throughout the majority of the second half.

It seemed as if Williams would give PBA an insurance goal in the 61st minute, but her dipping try from 25 yards away clanked off the top of the bar.

However, a mere two minutes later, Williams fired an attempt from nearly the same spot that found the upper portion of the goal to complete her brace and ensure the 3-1 triumph. Williams now leads the team with four goals and 10 points this season.

The Sailfish registered seven of their 13 shots on frame in the match, and out-shot the Fighting Knights 8-5 in the second half due to the surge in the second 45 minutes.

Women's soccer will end its three-game homestand with a contest against Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday at 1 p.m.
