WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball steamrolled Nova Southeastern on Saturday, as the 'Fish hit .392 in the match and improved to 10-0 on the season and 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Sharks from Nova Southeastern have struggled early on this season, as they fall to 2-7 and 0-2 in league play.
The 'Fish hit .406 in the first set of the match, as freshman Amber Rowoldt led the way with five kills. The Sharks kept it close early, as they trailed 12-10 before the Sailfish offense came to life and the 'Fish rolled to a 25-17 first set victory.
PBA was in control early on in the second set, as Raegan Grooms had three early kills and the 'Fish led 10-4 and forced the Sharks to take a timeout. NSU rebounded however, and were able to get within a point at 15-14. The 'Fish then received some big kills from Rowoldt and Maddie Span to pull away in the set before Lyndzey Minter picked up her second kill to close out the set.
The Sailfish cruised to a third-set win, as the 'Fish hit .483 and made just one error in the set while hitting .483. Rowoldt and Grooms picked up five kills each in the set, while newcomers Carly Middleton and Sophia Rasmussen made their Rubin Arena debuts in the final set, with Rasmussen picking up a kill late in the set.
Rowoldt once again led the Sailfish with her 15 kills, but Grooms had the most efficient day for the Sailfish, clubbing 14 kills on 24 swings while not making a single error. Span had eight kills on the day while hitting .467. Molly Burkhardt had 37 assists on the afternoon while Lilly Turner led the Sailfish with 15 digs.
The Sailfish will return to play on Friday, Sept. 14 in Daytona Beach, Fla. as they will face off with Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m.
