Sailfish Offense Unlucky in 2-1 Loss to Lions

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer had an unlucky offensive outing on Wednesday night, falling 2-1 to Saint Leo.

Madison Chiola was called on early and often in the contest as the Lions tallied 11 shots in the first half. Chiola's biggest save came in the 27th minute, closing down on a breakaway and making the save on a Kelli Hippenmeyer shot.

A foul inside the box in the 30th minute gave the 'Fish their best opportunity in the first half. Shannon Berg put the Sailfish ahead 1-0 after burying the penalty kick into the right corner, her fourth goal on the season.

The Lions evened the score in the 35th minute after Hippenmeyer headed in a cross by Brooke Snoll into the left corner of the net. The 'Fish and Lions ended the first half of play tied 1-1.

PBA amped up the pressure offensively in the second half. Kylee Rullo kick-started the 'Fish offense in the 56th minute when she had a 1-on-1 opportunity from the left goal mouth saved by Lions goalkeeper Julia Ortiz.

Palm Beach Atlantic had another chance saved by Ortiz four minutes later on a point blank header from Jaycie Tate. Ortiz came to the Lions' rescue again the 67th minute with a miraculous save on Karina Willliams from five yards out.

The Lions went ahead 2-1 in the 70th minute after Carolina Solis-Deleon drilled a shot into the upper-left corner of the net.

Both teams recorded nine shots on goal. The Lions doubled the 'Fish in fouls, 10 to five.

The Sailfish will have their conference home opener this Saturday at 6 p.m. as they take on Tampa.
