FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball claimed their first Sunshine State Conference championship on Friday night despite falling to Nova Southeastern 3-1.
The 'Fish entered the game needing a win or a loss from Saint Leo and Embry-Riddle to clinch their first conference title in their first season as a full member in the league. PBA is currently 21-4 in conference play despite the loss Friday night.
PBA gave up three runs in the first inning thanks in part to an error that allowed two unearned runs to cross. The Sailfish scored their lone run in the third as Claudia Pizzarelli scored on a dropped pop up from the NSU shortstop.
The Sailfish were only able to take advantage of that one error from the Sharks but had other opportunities as NSU made three errors in the game. PBA was limited to just three hits as Lexie Storrer tossed a complete game for the Sharks. She improves to 13-19 on the season while Ashton Adkins was the tough luck loser for PBA, falling to 11-3 after 5 innings and six strikeouts. Both teams finished with three hits.
These two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
