NEWBERRY, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse got down early and never was able to get the offense on track in a 9-4 loss to Newberry on Monday night.
The Sailfish (2-4) were held to a season-low four goals in the game as midfielder Colin Hayek scored both goals for PBA in the first half. The Wolves scored the first goal of the game with 5:25 to play in the first quarter but Hayek answered just 37 seconds later for PBA.
Newberry scored four straight before Hayek got his second on the night with 39 seconds left in the first half. The Maryland transfer has scored three goals on the season, all in the last three games. PBA trailed 5-2 at halftime but the Wolves scored three straight to start the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Trevor Keena scored a man up goal in the third and Jackson Miller added a goal of his own but PBA was never able to close the gap. Keena leads the team with 11 goals this season and Miller now has four.
Ben Savick led the team with seven groundballs and also made eight saves for the Sailfish.
PBA is back in action on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to take on North Greenville at Irmo High School in Columbia, S.C.
