WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped their seventh straight on Thursday night, falling to No. 18 ranked Saint Leo 12-6. The Sailfish fall to 18-12 with the loss and drop to 7-6 in SSC play. Saint Leo improves to 14-5 with their fifth straight win.
The Lions got off to a great start off Sailfish starter Mikhail Cazenave, as they put up four runs in each of the first two innings to take an 8-1 lead early. Chase Turner and Zach Scott provided the bulk of the offense, as Scott hit a grand slam in the first and Turner hit a three-run homer in the second inning.
The 'Fish fought back in the bottom of the second, as they grabbed one run on a Sean Houck squeeze bunt, and scored another on a Jake Summey RBI single. The Fish grabbed another run on an error to cut the lead to 8-4.
The Sailfish got another run back in the fifth, as an RBI single by Eddie Vicinanza made the score 8-5 after plating Kyle Simon.
The Lions put the 'Fish away in the eighth inning, as they scored three big runs and took a 12-6 lead.
Jordan Pendleton picked up the win in the game, as the senior threw seven innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits while striking out eight Sailfish hitters.
Cazenave picked up his second consecutive loss, as the senior allowed nine runs (eight earned) in six innings of work.
Vicinanza picked up three hits on the night, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Simon and Summey added two hits each for the 'Fish.
The Sailfish and Lions will be back at it tomorrow, facing off in a doubleheader beginning at noon from J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
