MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – PBA played the No. 1 Buccaneers tough but ultimately came up short on Wednesday afternoon, losing 8-1 to Barry.
The Sailfish picked up their lone point in doubles – where they hung with Barry in all three flights. Pato Zarazua and Pietro de Silva got PBA on the board with an 8-6 win at No. 1. Philipp Hoffmann and Bernardo Ferreira battled tough against No. 37 ranked Pierre Montrieul and Blake Bayldon at No. 2 but fell just short, 9-7. Down at No. 3 it was Rodolfo Hasegawa and Thomas Salmon on the short end, losing to Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier 8-6.
In singles play two Sailfish were able to win a set as Barry won the other four matches handily in straight sets. Hoffmann bounced back after a 6-1 defeat in the first set to win the second 7-6, but in the third Gomez – ranked No. 6 in the country – came out on top 10-1. At No. 4 it was de Silva who went to the third. He took the opener from Versier 6-3 before dropping the second 6-4. In the third it was Versier who battled to a 11-9 victory.
