Cazenave's Complete-Game Shutout Leads Sailfish to Fifth Straight Win

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball got another brilliant start from ace Mikhail Cazenave, as the senior tossed a complete-game shutout to lead the 'Fish to their fifth consecutive victory, a 3-0 win over Embry-Riddle on Friday night at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.  The Sailfish improve to 11-5 on the season and 4-0 in Sunshine State Conference play with the win while the Eagles drop to 6-8 on the season.

Friday's game was very much a pitcher's duel, as Cazenave and Eagle starting pitcher Cody Crouse took turns putting zeros on the scoreboard early on.  Neither team was able to scratch a run across until the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jake Summey tripled to right field with one out in the sixth, which brought up Ryan Johnson, who followed with a triple of his own to drive in Summey.  After a strikeout, Kyle Simon doubled to right, giving the 'Fish a 2-0 lead.  PBA added a third run in the sixth on an Embry-Riddle error.

The Eagles fought back hard however, as a walk and a single, along with a Sailfish error gave Embry-Riddle runners on second and third with just one out.  Cazenave struck out back-to-back batters to end the frame and keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Cazenave retired Embry-Riddle in 1-2-3 innings in both the eighth and ninth innings to complete his shutout.  The senior right-hander struck out 10 batters on Friday and allowed just four hits to improve to 5-2 on the season.

The top of the Sailfish lineup did all of the damage on Friday, as the top four hitters in the order recorded all seven hits for the 'Fish.  Summey, Johnson, and Connor Rowland picked up two hits each while Simon added his RBI double.

The Sailfish will return to action tomorrow, March 3 for a doubleheader with Embry-Riddle beginning at noon.
