LEXINGTON, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped their third consecutive game on Thursday, falling to North Greenville University by an 11-6 final score. The 'Fish drop to 1-3 with the early-season loss. North Greenville improves to 3-1.
The Crusaders got four runs in the second inning of Sailfish starter Mikhail Cazenave (Loss, 1-1). The Sailfish answered quickly however, as four Sailfish batters recorded RBI singles in the top of the third inning to plate five runs and get the 'Fish a 5-4 lead. Simon started the RBI chain, as Ryan Johnson, Connor Rowland, Hakeem Rhodes, and Riley Herold all picked up RBIs in the inning.
Unfortunately for the 'Fish, North Greenville had an answer of their own, as they scored three runs in the third inning to retake a 7-5 lead, a lead they never relinquished.
The Crusaders tacked on runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to win by the 11-6 final.
Cazenave finished his evening with 5.2 innings pitched, allowing nine runs (five earned) and striking out four batters.
Evan Garner earned the win for NGU, as he threw five innings in relief, allowing just one run and striking out five.
Simon, Johnson, Rowland, and Herold finished with two hits each on the night, while Herold also added two RBIs.
The Sailfish will return to action tomorrow, Feb. 9 as they will face off with No. 18 Catawba in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The Sailfish defeated Catawba 11-0 on opening night last week in West Palm Beach.
