WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 18 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic softball won their fifth consecutive game on Friday night, defeating Adelphi University 11-5 at Simpson Field. The Sailfish improve to 8-2 on the season with the win while the Panthers fall to 0-7.
The Sailfish jumped out to an early lead on Friday, as Edmilly Molina singled home a first-inning run through the left side of the infield. The third inning is where the 'Fish took control of the game, as Michaela Hynes squeezed home a run with no outs. Molina followed her and doubled to center field, driving in two more runs. Brianna Rano singled to drive in Hynes, and Hannah Carlton singled to drive in two more runs and give the 'Fish a 6-0 lead.
Ashton Adkins got the start on Friday, and dominated the Panther lineup, as she threw four shutout innings, striking out three hitters and allowing just three singles.
The Panthers entered the fifth inning down 7-0, but mounted a furious comeback, cutting the Sailfish lead to 7-5 entering the bottom of the sixth.
The 'Fish pulled away for good in the sixth inning, as they scored four runs to take an 11-5 lead. Molina knocked in another run with a double to left field to begin the scoring. Later in the inning, Kaley Hinds and Carlton added RBI singles.
Jana Wagner picked up her third save on the season, pitching the final 2.2 innings and allowing two runs.
Molina finished 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Carlton also knocked in three runs with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
The Sailfish will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 24 as they complete the series with Adelphi with a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
