Softball Completes Weekend Sweep of Barry

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball pulled off the weekend sweep of Barry University on Saturday, taking game one of the doubleheader 2-0 and following that up with another shutout, 4-0.

The Sailfish are back in action next weekend when they host Adelphi in a three-game series starting on Friday.

Game One
Maddie Biggs delivered the big blow in game one, a two-run homer to left in the second inning that accounted for all the scoring. Taylor Pennica collected two of the team's five hits including a double to lead off the fourth. She also singled in front of Bigg's big fly.

In the circle Abbey Busby allowed just two hits in 6.1 innings to stay perfect at 3-0 this season. She struck out four and walked four – two coming in the seventh. Jana Wagner was summoned out of the bullpen to get the final two outs and earn her second save of the year.

Game Two
In the second game the 'Fish were held off the scoreboard until the fifth when Hannah Carlton scored before Alexis Guerra was caught stealing to end the inning. Carlton led off the inning with a single through the infield. She was also the lone 'Fish to record a multi-hit game as she drove in a run to cap the scoring in the sixth.

The big blow in that sixth came off the bat of Edmilly Molina, who drove in two with a triple down the right field line. Loren Kilgore and Alison Yawn scored on the play after Kilgore doubled earlier in the inning and Yawn came on as a pinch runner.

It was another solid performance in the circle for the 'Fish as Wagner went five innings, allowing just two hits and a walk with one strikeout. She improved to 3-0 while Ashton Adkins earned her first save by getting the final six outs with two coming from strikeouts.
