Sailfish Drop SSC Opener to Lynn in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball dropped their Sunshine State Conference opener on Wednesday, as they fell on the road to Lynn 66-56.  The Sailfish fall to 1-3 overall with the loss while Lynn improves to 5-0 with the home victory.

The Sailfish got out to a hot start shooting from long range as they made four of six three-pointers in the first quarter and led 20-12 after the opening 10 minutes.  Mina Salhia scored 10 points in the opening quarter as she and Claudia Charles hit two three-pointers each in the quarter for the 'Fish.

Lynn rebounded in the second quarter, cutting into the Sailfish lead as the 'Fish led by just one point at the break.  PBA shot 48 percent from the field in the first half as they limited Lynn to just 30 percent shooting but the Fighting Knights went 10-for-14 from the charity stripe while the 'Fish took just two free throws in the half.  Salhia led the 'Fish with 10 points in the half but was forced to miss most of the second quarter as she exited with three fouls.

The Sailfish found their offensive rhythm again in the third quarter and outscored the Fighting Knights 18-14 to take a five-point lead into the final period.

The Fighting Knights took control of the game in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Sailfish 20-5 and won the game 66-56.

Salhia led the Sailfish with 12 points on Wednesday as Jonika Garvin finished with 11.  Aniyah Ross led with six rebounds to go with six points while Charles added nine points off the bench.  Taylor Laabs added seven of her own off the bench for the 'Fish.

The Sailfish will return home for a Saturday afternoon tilt with Saint Leo University.  Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Dec. 1 against the Lions inside Rubin Arena.
