WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball fell to No. 8 Virginia Union 66-50 on Wednesday afternoon inside Rubin Arena. The Sailfish drop to 1-2 on the season as they have opened the season with a tough schedule. The No. 8 ranked Panthers improve to 4-0 on the year with the road victory.
The Panthers got off to a hot start offensively, as they scored shot 50 percent and scored 23 points in the opening quarter and led by 11 after the first 10 minutes.
VUU kept up the pace offensively and took a 41-25 lead into the break. Ciara Cumbie led the 'Fish with seven first-half points while Taylor Laabs made both of her three-point attempts in the first half, both of which came in the second quarter.
The Panthers extended their lead to over 20 in the second half and coasted to a 66-50 victory while shooting over 41 percent on the day.
Cumbie finished with a double-double for the Sailfish, as she tallied 12 points and 12 boards on the day. Jonika Garvin had 12 points and eight rebounds for the 'Fish, while Laabs finished with nine points on three successful shots from deep.
The 'Fish will return to action in one week, as they will open up Sunshine State Conference play with a trip down to Boca Raton to face off with Lunn University at 5:30 p.m.
