WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer senior night could not have gone better as the 'Fish held the Tritons scoreless, winning 2-0. All eight seniors started the match and helped guide the team to victory as the Sailfish scored both goals in the first half.
Senior Dominique Barber made the most of her first collegiate soccer start by drawing a foul in the penalty box. Shannon Berg put the 'Fish up in the 12th minute, scoring her fifth goal of the year on her senior night.
Freshman Sophia Boris added to the scoreline in the 29th minute, taking a feed from Ruth Galvin into the left side of the box and blasting a shot into the right corner. Palm Beach Atlantic ended the second half leading Eckerd, 2-0.
The second half of action saw the Tritons pick up the offensive pressure, tallying nine shots and forcing six saves from goalkeeper Madison Chiola.
Chiola's biggest save came in the 70th minute. Eckerd forward Lashanti Williams lost her defender five yards out of the box and blasted a shot into the top right corner of the goal. Chiola dived and pushed the ball enough for it to ricochet off the crossbar.
The Sailfish buckled down for the remaining 20 minutes of the game as Eckerd desperately tried to get onto the scoreboard. PBA's defense held strong and the 'Fish defeated the Tritons, 2-0.
Eckerd recorded 16 total shots, eight of them on goal while PBA tallied seven shots with only one off the frame. Chiola performed spectacularly in goal, recording eight saves and the shutout. The 'Fish (17) and Tritons (12) combined for 29 fouls in the game.
PBA improved to 6-6-2 and 2-5-1 in conference play on the season while Eckerd dropped to 6-4-1 and 3-4 in SSC action.
