WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball dropped a Sunshine State Conference game against Barry University on Wednesday, falling by a 72-58 final score. The Bucs outscored the Sailfish 50-26 in the second half to pick up the win, and improve to 15-6 on the season. PBA falls to 4-16 on the year and 3-11 overall with the loss.
The Sailfish got off to a good start on Wednesday, as Hannah Grim scored nine first-quarter points and PBA led 16-14 after one. Ciara Cumbie added five points in the quarter for the 'Fish.
The Sailfish opened up a 10-point halftime lead as they outscored the Bucs 16-8 in the second quarter. Cumbie finished the first half with nine points and five boards for the 'Fish, who were looking to avenge an early-season loss to the Bucs.
Barry came out of the break on fire, as they opened the third quarter on a 15-2 run, and took a 37-34 lead midway through the quarter. The Buccaneers had much of the same success in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the 'Fish 28-20 in the fourth to win by the 14-point margin.
Grim finished with 21 points and eight rebounds in the game, as the senior also finished with three assists. Cumbie picked up a double-double for the 'Fish, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Nkiru Anyagaligbo scored six points and grabbed six rebounds before fouling out.
Kiara Palmer scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Bucs to lead the way offensively.
The Sailfish will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 7 as they will travel to take on Palm Beach County rival Lynn University at 5:30 p.m.
