WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball snapped an eight-game losing skid on Wednesday evening, as they received 31 points from senior Hannah Grim and defeated Rollins College by a 69-61 final score inside Rubin Arena. The Sailfish pick up their second win of the season and their first win in Sunshine State Conference play. Rollins falls to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in league play with the loss.
The first half was rough for both teams on the offensive end of the court, as Rollins shot 36 percent from the field and PBA shot just 25 percent. Both teams also struggled from long range, as they combined to shoot just 4-for-21 from three-point range in the half with both teams making just two each. Carly McLendon scored six points and added seven rebounds and three blocks in the half for the Tars, who took a 32-24 lead into the break.
The Sailfish came out on fire in the second half, as it took just over four minutes for PBA to go on a 17-5 run and take a 41-37 lead over the Tars. The game swung back and forth for the remainder of the third quarter, but the Sailfish used a Tyler Davis buzzer-beater to take a 47-46 lead into the final quarter of play.
The 'Fish began the fourth quarter as they did the third, with another big run, as they went on a 14-4 run over eight minutes in the final period, and took a commanding 61-50 lead with two minutes to play. The Sailfish made seven of nine free throws down the stretch to put the game on ice and defeat the Tars.
Grim finished with 31 points and 14 rebounds in 38 minutes of play as she carried the Sailfish offense on the night. Nkiru Anyagaligbo also posted a double-double on Wednesday as she tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Mina Salhia finished with nine points for the 'Fish as Davis ended her night with eight points off the bench. Ciara Cumbie was big for the Sailfish down low on the night, as she pulled down nine rebounds before fouling out of the game.
The Sailfish will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 3 as they will travel to Tampa, Fla. to take on the University of Tampa at 2 p.m.
