DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball fell short against Embry-Riddle on Wednesday, as the Eagles defeated the 'Fish by a 78-63 final. The Sailfish fall to 4-14 overall and 3-9 in Sunshine State Conference play. Embry-Riddle completes the season sweep of PBA and improves to 14-4 and 8-3 in league play.
The Sailfish had a strong first half offensively, as they shot over 44 percent from the field and made four of their eight attempts from long range. Hannah Grim scored 10 points in the half and added five rebounds to lead the 'Fish in both categories. Unfortunately the Sailfish defense struggled in the first 20 minutes, as they entered halftime trailing 38-31.
The Sailfish defensive struggles continued in the second half, as Embry-Riddle finished the game with a 48 percent shooting percentage. The third quarter is where they really pulled away, outscoring the 'Fish 27-15. The Eagles shot 10-of-22 from three-point range on the night, and out-scored the 'Fish in the paint by a 42-32 clip. The 'Fish didn't have much of an answer for Lauren Ellenberger on Wednesday, as she finished with 14 points and six assists in just 23 minutes of play.
Grim finished the night with 15 points and eight rebounds, as the senior shot 5-of-11 from the field. Nkiru Anyagaligbo had another solid night, as she posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ciara Cumbie had a nice second half for the 'Fish, totaling 10 points and eight boards on the night.
Lisa van der Water made two of her three attempts from long range as she finished with six points on the night.
The Sailfish return to play on Saturday, as they will host Florida Southern at 2 p.m. inside Rubin Arena.
