Sailfish Return To Form, Sweep Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – After going to five sets a night earlier the No. 4 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team bounced back to pick up their sixth sweep of the year, defeating Rollins 25-21, 25-14, 27-25 on Saturday afternoon.

The Sailfish are now 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference while Rollins falls to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the SSC.

PBA had their offense humming in the first two sets, registering an attack percentage over .400 in both sets but had to come from behind in the third as they struggled to a .211 attack. The hit .343 for the match while holding the Tars to a .213 clip, including .051 in the final set.

A balanced attack led PBA on the day with four players recording eight or more kills. Raegan Grooms led the team with nine kills while also adding eight digs. She hit .316 for the match. Sarah Kimmey, Ally Rohn and Sophie Hoekstra all finished with eight kills and all were over .300 in the match with Kimmey leading the way at .538.

PBA trailed early in set one before taking three straight points thanks to a kill from Hoekstra and a pair of attack errors from the Tars that tied the set at 15-15. The teams traded points until Rollins took a 21-20 lead and that's when PBA used a 5-0 run to secure the opener. During that final run Grooms added two kills with Rohn and Span each collecting one.

In the second the 'Fish continued their run from the first, scoring the first four points as they went on to hit a match-high .462 in the set. They pushed the lead to 18-8 midway through the set before scoring six of the final seven points to take a 2-0 advantage.

Another run late in the set allowed the Sailfish to secure the sweep after trailing 22-19 the 'Fish scored four straight to take a 23-22 lead as Abby Palkert and Span teamed up for a pair of blocks during the run. PBA had their first chance to win it at 24-23 after a Span kill but couldn't convert. After the Tars tied it at 25-25 Rohn and Kimmey provided back-to-back kills to give the Sailfish the win.

Rohn also led the team with 22 assists and added eight digs. It was the first match of the season that she didn't record a double-double. Kimmey added four blocks as did Maddie Span as the team tallied eight team blocks in the match.

Susie Forbes led the team with 13 digs as Jazz Schmidt collected three of the team's six service aces. Molly Burkhardt added 13 assists for the 'Fish.
