WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Sailfish men's soccer team got off to a slow start on Friday night at the Rinker Athletic Campus, but exploded for three goals in the second half to defeat the University of Alabama-Huntsville by a 3-1 final score.
The first half was a defensive struggle, as both teams struggled to get any rhythm offensively. There were only five total shots in the half, with only one PBA shot being on target.
The game remained scoreless until the 71
st minute, when
Cleef Desir finished past the Charger goalkeeper to put the Sailfish up 1-0. It was just one minute later when
Guillermo Deal was fouled in the box, setting up
Charlie Dennis to score his first goal of the season on a penalty kick.
UAH scored a goal in the 80
th minute as a long shot from Corentin Diverres caught
Elliott Barker by surprise and pulled the Chargers to within one goal.
The 'Fish put the game out of reach in the 88
th minute as
Kebba Nyang scored a goal, which was assisted by
Fredo Dilbert, to make the game 3-1.
The Sailfish outshot the Chargers 17-6 on the night, and had 11 corner kicks to only one for UAH.
Elliott Barker picked up the win in net as the sophomore allowed just the one goal on the night.
PBA will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 3 at the Rinker Athletic Campus for a 7 p.m. start against Auburn University at Montgomery.
