Sailfish Fall to Saint Leo 54-46

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball dropped a Sunshine State Conference contest to Saint Leo University on Saturday, as they fell to the Lions by a 54-46 final score.  The Sailfish fall to 1-7 overall with the loss while Saint Leo improves to 2-6 on the season.

The Sailfish and Lions struggled to fine baskets in the first half, as both defenses forced double-digit turnovers in the half.  The Sailfish leading scorer Hannah Grim finished the half with eight points but the 'Fish trailed 24-19 at the break.  PBA struggled from the field, as they shot just 24 percent (8-of-33).  The Lions shot just 32 percent (7-for-2 2) in the half but entered the break with the small lead.  Ragen Dotson was the offensive bright spot in the half, as she scored 13 points in the first 20 minutes.

The third quarter is where the Lions were able to extend their lead, as they outscored the 'Fish 12-5 in the quarter, and held the Sailfish to just one made field goal.

The Sailfish finally found some offensive rhythm in the final quarter, as the offense broke out and scored 22 points in the quarter.  The 'Fish got huge three pointers by Caroline Patrick and Katie Stang down the stretch, and were able to cut the Lion lead to just three points with 1:51 remaining.

The Lions made a couple of key buckets down the stretch to extend their lead and win by the eight-point margin.

Grim finished with 14 points as she battled foul trouble on the afternoon.  Ciara Cumbie finished with eight points and nine rebounds in the game.  Aniyah Ross turned in another nice performance, as she scored nine points and added six rebounds.

The Sailfish will return to play on Saturday, Dec. 9 as they will travel to face off with Eckerd College at 2 p.m.
