ST. PAUL, Minn. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball dropped a non-conference game on Monday evening, as they fell to Concordia-St. Paul by a final score of 63-58. The Sailfish fall to 1-9 with the road loss while the Golden Bears improve to 4-7 overall.
The teams were evenly matched in the first half of play, as neither team led by more than five points and the Sailfish took a 24-22 lead into the break. Sailfish senior and Apple Valley, Minn. native Hannah Grim led all scorers with 11 points in the half, while Nkiru Anyagaligbo scored six points and added seven rebounds in the half down low for the 'Fish.
Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half as the Sailfish shot just 28 percent while the Golden Bears shot 32 percent in the first 20 minutes.
The second half got off to a different start for Concordia-St. Paul, as they were able to get into the bonus early in both quarters. The Sailfish were in foul trouble all night as Aniyah Ross fouled out and three other Sailfish players finished with four fouls each. The Bears capitalized from the charity stripe, making 18 of their 22 attempts in the second half.
The Sailfish were down 10 points late in the game, but went on a 7-0 run to cut it to a three-point game with a minute to play. The 'Fish were unable to complete their comeback attempt however as Concordia-St. Paul made too many free throws down the stretch.
Grim finished with 19 points and seven rebounds on the night, while Anyagaligbo turned in an impressive performance, scoring 16 points and pulling down 17 rebounds.
The Sailfish will have a quick turnaround, as they will complete their road trip with a game against Minnesota State tomorrow, Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. eastern in Mankato, Minn.
