WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer had their unbeaten streak come to an end Friday night, as the No. 2 ranked Sailfish fell to Rollins College by a 2-0 score in the Sunshine State Conference Semifinals at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The Sailfish drop to 14-1-2 on the season with the loss while Rollins advances to the SSC Championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Heavy rain fell at the Rinker Athletic Campus during the first half of the match, and both defenses had strong showings in the period. The Sailfish outshot the Tars 4-1 in the frame, as neither team had many scoring chances.
Rollins got the first goal of the match in the 54th minute of play, as Johnny Nartowicz finished past a diving Elliott Barker to give the Tars a 1-0 lead. The Sailfish then had a strong offensive run, as they had several opportunities to pull even with Rollins. Charlie Dennis came the closest to tying the match, as he blasted a free kick off the crossbar in the 71st minute of play.
Rollins put the match out of reach with a goal in the 76th minute, as Alex Chopra scored to give the Tars the two-goal advantage. The Sailfish outshot the Tars 11-5 total in the match, but were unable to find the back of the net and fell by the 2-0 final score.
The match ends a 16-match unbeaten streak for the Sailfish, who will now turn their attention to the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. The Sailfish have been ranked on top of all three NCAA South Region Polls this season and will be looking to host a regional match for the third consecutive season.
