WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer saw their 2017 season come to an end on Sunday, as they fell 2-1 to Lynn University at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The No. 5 ranked Sailfish finish the season 14-2-2, and No. 24 Lynn advances to the NCAA Tournament Third Round with their 12-3-2 record.
The Fighting Knights got on the scoreboard first, with a 23rd minute goal from Max Herbert. The goal was set up by Alun Webb, who broke away down the sideline and found Herbert at the top of the box. The match remained 1-0 into the break as both teams combined for just six shots in the half.
Webb added a goal in the 66th minute of play, which opened up a 2-0 lead for Lynn, as he received a pass from Logan Klipfell and beat the Sailfish goalie Elliott Barker 1-on-1.
The Sailfish were able to climb within one goal in the 88th minute, as Charlie Dennis sent a beautiful cross into the box, which Guillermo Deal slotted into the net past Alexander Roth.
The Sailfish were unable to create another scoring opportunity in the final minute of the match, and fell by the 2-1 final score.
The 2017 Sunshine State Conference regular-season champion Sailfish finish the season allowing just seven goals, and posting a school record 13 shutouts. The 'Fish outscored their opponents 37-7 on the season, and reached the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season.
