MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball defeated Minnesota-Crookston on Friday, giving the Sailfish their first win of the 2017-18 season. The 'Fish move to 1-4 on the season with their 69-66 win on the first day of the Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic.
The Sailfish got off to a good start in the first half, as they received solid play inside. Jane Svilberg scored eight points in the half, and Ciara Cumbie had seven points and grabbed nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes. The Sailfish and Golden Eagles went into the break tied at 31 points apiece.
Hannah Grim, the leading scorer for the Sailfish, found her groove in the second half on Friday, as she scored 23 points in the second half on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. PBA and Minnesota-Crookston were tied at 64 points each with 30 seconds remaining, when Grim drove into the lane and made a layup, getting fouled in the process. Grim completed the three-point play and the Sailfish held on to win by the three-point margin.
Grim finished with 29 total points and six rebounds in the contest. Cumbie was a force down low on Friday, as she scored 11 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Mina Salhia scored 11 points, making 3-of-6 shots from long range on the night.
Minnesota-Crookston had four players score in double figures, with Micaela Noga leading the way with 22 points.
The Sailfish will be back in action tomorrow, Nov. 25 as they will complete their play at the Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic at 7 p.m. against Southwest Baptist.
