DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer dropped a one-goal match to Embry-Riddle on Wednesday night, falling by a 2-1 final score. The Sailfish fall to 2-9-1 on the season with the loss while Embry-Riddle improves to 5-5-3 on the year.
The Eagles were on the attack in the first half, as they finished the first half with 12 shots and six shots on target. Embry-Riddle was unable to get on the scoreboard however as Sailfish goalkeeper Isabelle Granlund made six saves in the half as the match entered halftime scoreless.
The Eagles were able to connect on goals in the 50th and 68th minutes to pull out to a 2-0 lead. Elvira Ramel and Guro Naess Berge scored the goals for Embry-Riddle.
The Sailfish did not go away without a fight however, as Kayla Fisher scored a penalty kick goal after an Eagle foul in the 70th minute to pull the Fish to within one goal. PBA had a couple of chances late to tie the match, but were unable to connect and fell by the 2-1 final score.
"It has been a season filled with close losses. This team has huge heart and always plays hard. Tonight was no different as we clawed our way back into the game and their goalie made a point-blank save on the goal line to preserve their 2-1 advantage," said Chris Gnehm. "We finish the season on Friday and are all in on sending our seniors out with a win."
The Sailfish will wrap up their 2017 season at home on Friday, Oct. 27 as they will host Florida Tech. The Sunshine State Conference match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
