WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 2 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish kept up their impressive season on Wednesday evening, defeating Embry-Riddle University by a 2-1 score in front of a nice crowd at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The Sailfish remain unbeaten on the season, as they improve to 13-0-2 with the victory. The 'Fish, who clinched the Sunshine State Conference Regular Season Championship this week, now have an 8-0-1 record in league play.
The Sailfish defense dominated play in the first half of Wednesday's contest, as they did not allow a single shot by the Eagles in the frame. The Sailfish offense was able to generate seven shots, but were unable to connect on any and the first half of play concluded with no scoring from either side.
The Sailfish received a helping hand from the Eagles in the second half, as the Embry-Riddle keeper received a red card, forcing them to play the rest of the match down a player. After failing to convert on a penalty kick, the 'Fish finally broke the scoreless tie in the 72nd minute as Claudio Rivadeneira scored his fourth goal of the season, sending a shot past the diving goalie after a nice cross from senior Cleef Desir.
The 'Fish expanded their lead in the 78th minute, as senior Jerry Saint-Vil blasted a shot from 15 yards out into the corner of the net. The goal is Saint-Vil's third of the season, and gave the Sailfish a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles were able to score a late goal, as Toby Cassidy finished on a shot in the 89th minute. The Sailfish outshot the Eagles by a 22-3 final count.
Wednesday served as senior night for the Sailfish, who honored their 11 seniors at halftime of the contest.
Palm Beach Atlantic, with their 8-0-1 SSC record, will host the SSC Postseason Tournament, which will take place on Nov. 3-5 at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The Sailfish will play their semifinal match on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
PBA will finish their regular season this Friday, as they travel to Melbourne to face off with Florida Tech at 7 p.m.
