WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer scored in the seventh minute on Saturday night, but were unable to hold the lead as they fell in double-overtime to the Florida Southern College Moccasins. Florida Southern improves to 8-1-3 on the season while PBA falls to 2-8-1 after falling in the Sunshine State Conference match.
Sailfish senior forward
Claire Allen made a run into Moccasin territory early in the match and was fouled by the FSC defense. The foul set up
Maddie McCarty for a free-kick, and McCarty sent a ball into the box, where
Kayla Fisher sent the ball into the back of the net, giving the 'Fish the early lead.
Just 15 minutes later, Florida Southern answered, as Alexa Moberley scored her fifth goal of the season to tie the match at one. The score remained 1-1 the remainder of the half as both defenses found their shape and played well the final 25 minutes of the half.
Just a couple minutes after halftime, the Mocs had a great chance to take a lead in the match, but Sailfish goalkeeper
Isabelle Granlund made a great save to keep the match tied at one. Regulation ended with the two teams tied, and the match headed to overtime, where the Mocs received the game-winner from Chloe Hamm in the second overtime period.
"I'm proud of our seniors and tonight is about honoring them. We have experienced some tough losses this season and during their time at PBA," said PBA head coach
Chris Gnehm. "That does not take away from the legacy they've left behind and through hard work and perserverence we will get to our goals."
After the match, the Sailfish honored their five seniors, as
Gemma Burrul,
Claire Allen,
Valerie Larson,
Isabelle Granlund, and
Kayla Fisher were recognized for their time with the Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer program. The Sailfish will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 25 as they will travel to Embry-Riddle for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
