Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kennie Silvestri

Late Goal by Desir Helps No. 3 Sailfish Remain Unbeaten

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The No. 3 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team got all they could handle from Florida Southern on Saturday night, as there were seven cards and 34 total fouls called in the match.  The Sailfish outshot the Moccasins 16-3 in the match however, and got another second-half goal from senior Cleef Desir which propelled the 'Fish to a 1-0 Sunshine State Conference victory.  PBA now sits at 12-0-2 on the season and 7-0-1 in SSC play.

The Sailfish and Mocs played a very defensive first half, as the teams combined for just eight shots and one shot on goal, which was stopped by Sailfish goalkeeper Elliott Barker.  The second half is where the match started to get chippy, as both Foster Appiah for FSC and Callum Chapman-Page received their second yellow cards and were disqualified from the remainder of the match.

In the 82nd minute of the match, Kebba Nyang made a run down the sideline, and made a pass to Jerry Saint-Vil.  The senior then sent a ball to Desir, who finished past the Moccasin goalkeeper for his sixth goal of the season.  Tonight was the third time in the last three weeks that Desir has broken a scoreless tie after the 80th minute against a conference opponent.

The Sailfish completed the shutout against the Moccasins, and have now shutout 12 of their 14 opponents this season.  Barker continues his stellar sophomore season in net for the 'Fish, as he leads NCAA Division II in goals against average as well as save percentage.

The Sailfish will return home for a conference match against Embry-Riddle University on Wednesday, Oct. 25.  The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. with a senior night ceremony at halftime.  If the Sailfish can defeat the Eagles Wednesday they will clinch the SSC Regular-Season Championship.
