FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer dropped a Sunshine State Conference match to the first-place Nova Southeastern University Sharks Wednesday, falling by a 2-0 final score. The Sailfish fall to 2-6-1 on the season, while the No. 9 ranked Sharks improve to 9-1-1. The Sharks have now taken down PBA twice this season, as they defeated PBA 2-1 on Sept. 5 in overtime.
It did not take long for the Sharks to score on the night, as Monica Orteu scored in the sixth minute of the contest. NSU added their second goal of the half in the 24
th minute and headed into halftime up 2-0.
The Sailfish defense calmed down after the initial surge by the Sharks, and found some offense of their own, as they ended up with nine shots, and forced a couple tough saves in addition to
Kayla Fisher hitting the crossbar late in the first half. The 'Fish were unable to finish a scoring chance however, and lost by the 2-0 score.
Isabelle Granlund finished the match with seven saves in net for the Sailfish.
"We talked about how Nova Southeastern like to start fast and they put two goals by us in the first 24 minutes. We had a chance to bring the game back to 2-1 later in the half and did not convert," said PBA head coach
Chris Gnehm. "You have to give them a lot of credit, they are No. 9 in the country for a reason. Our focus now turns to a tough Eckerd team on the road Saturday night."
The Sailfish will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. on Saturday for another SSC match. Kickoff between PBA and Eckerd is scheduled for 7 pm.
