Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – For the first time since Oct. 3 the Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team was unable to overcome their opposition, falling 3-2 to #22 Florida Southern on Friday night. The No. 9 Sailfish’s loss snaps a 15-game winning streak.
Ally Rohn picked up her D2-leading eighth triple-double on the night but the ‘Fish couldn’t rally in the fifth set, falling 15-13 in the tiebreaker. PBA (25-4) took the first set 25-22 before dropping the next two, 25-18 and 25-23. The Sailfish forced a decisive final set with a 25-16 victory in the fourth.
Rohn started the match with four kills, six assists and four digs in the opening set while older sister, Faith, led the team with five kills in the set. Neither team was able to pull away with the largest lead coming at 18-14 in favor of PBA. After the Mocs (22-8) tied the set at 22-22 the Sailfish secured the opening frame with three straight points. An attack error by the Mocs followed by a kill from Ally Rohn and a block by Faith Rohn and Sarah Ragland gave the ‘Fish the early lead.
Ally Rohn finished the match with 18 kills, 23 assists and 26 digs, setting new season-highs in kills and digs. Rachael Holehouse was the only Sailfish to finish the night with more digs, leading five players in double figures with 31. Ally led the team in both kills and assists while also adding three aces and three blocks.
The Sailfish struggled to get their attack going all night, hitting just .101 for the match as the Mocs picked up 12 total blocks. Florida Southern was marginally better with their attack, hitting .111 for the match but came in at .361 in the second set, which they won. They also hit well in the third (.160) and the fifth (.182) compared to their losses in the first and fourth sets.
In the fifth set the Sailfish trailed 12-10 before rattling off three straight points to take a 13-12 lead on a kill by Sarah Ragland. The Mocs answered with three straight of their own to take the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.
Faith Rohn finished the night with 14 kills and 10 digs while also adding four blocks. The double-double is her 15th of the year. Alexandra Roberts added 22 assists and 11 digs to pick up her 11th double-double of the season.
Emma Ballantyne added nine kills with a .273 attack and also added four digs and four blocks. Sarah Ragland recorded seven kills and a match-high nine total blocks. Stephany Brown added five blocks and four kills. Susie Forbes helped the defense with 17 digs.
The Sailfish will wrap up the season on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Florida Tech.
