No. 18 Sailfish Rally to Stay Unbeaten at Home, Defeat Rollins 3-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 18 Palm Beach Atlantic overcame a sluggish start to defeat Rollins College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The ‘Fish dropped the first set 26-24, their first lost set at home this year, before rebounding to win the final three 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.

Ally Rohn collected her nation-leading fifth triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 27 assists and 12 digs as her older sister, Faith, led all players with 18 kills. Emma Ballantyne also picked up 10 kills for the Sailfish as seven players recorded a kill in the match.

The ‘Fish trailed early in the first set by five at 8-3 but stormed back to take a 16-13 lead on a kill by Faith Rohn. Rollins slowly battled back and grabbed a 23-22 lead before back-to-back kills by Faith Rohn and Stephany Brown gave the ‘Fish a 24-23 advantage. The Tars responded with three straight points including two kills from Shannon McDonough to take the set.

PBA bounced back in the second to grab a 15-6 lead early and looked like they’d cruise to victory but the Tars scored seven straight points late to turn a 24-15 set into a 24-22 set. A bad set by Rollins’ Kianna Dieudonne ended the set and evened the match 1-1. Faith Rohn helped the offense with three of her five service aces as Emma Ballantyne, Sarah Ragland and Ally Rohn each had three kills in the set. Ragland finished with seven kills and five total blocks.

In the third the PBA offense finally got on track. After hitting .136 in the first and .077 in the second, the ‘Fish hit .436 in the third as they picked up 19 of their 62 kills. Faith Rohn collected six of her kills in the set on 11 swings with no errors. Ally Rohn had four kills in the set and Stephany Brown and Abby Palkert each had three. Brown finished the match with eight kills while Palkert added seven. The ‘Fish led 16-12 before scoring six straight to take a commanding 22-12 lead.

PBA never trailed in the fourth, jumping out to a 5-1 lead that quickly became a 15-4 advantage. The team collected 16 kills as they hit .297 in the set. The Tars were held to their lowest set hitting percentage of the match at .075. They had just nine kills and six errors in the set.

Alexandra Roberts picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 22 assists and 15 digs. Faith Rohn’s double-double was her seventh of the year while Ally Rohn has had a double-double in 11 of 15 matches. Rachael Holehouse led the team with 20 digs and also added six assists.

The Sailfish will make the return trip to Winter Park on Nov. 13.

Next up for PBA will be the SSC/GSC South Region Crossover in Carrolton, Ga. The event is scheduled to field all 22 teams from both the Gulf South Conference and the Sunshine State Conference on Oct. 16-17. The schedule is expected to be announced early next week.
