SAINT LEO, Fla. – After reaching their highest ranking of the season in the AVCA National Poll on Monday, the Sailfish volleyball team traveled to Saint Leo University to defend their perfect record on the season and came away with a 3-0 victory over the Lions.
After the journey across the state, PBA came out to what would be their most comfortable victory of the match, winning 25-17. The Sailfish hit .233 while holding the Lions to just .034 thanks to nine total blocks. Sarah Ragland and Stephany Brown were menacing on the front line, combining for seven total blocks.
Palm Beach Atlantic labored through the second set, finishing with 14 kills and nine errors on the way to the 25-23 win. Fortunately, the Sailfish were stout along the back line with Rachael Holehouse putting on a display in the frame and finishing with six digs.
With another road sweep in sight, PBA put together a solid final set on the way to a 27-25 final. Both teams imposed their will on the attacks, with the Sailfish hitting .298 and Saint Leo putting together an impressive .395 percentage. The balanced attack from Palm Beach Atlantic was eventually too much for the Lions to withstand.
With yet another performance that included contributions from every player along the way, Emma Ballantyne led the team with 11 kills. Katie Ballantyne and Faith Rohn each chipped in nine kills, while Ragland added eight and Brown seven.
Senior Becca Acevedo put together another fine match, distributing 41 assists in the three-set sweep. Junior libero Rachael Holehouse finished the match with a team-high 15 digs.
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Saturday afternoon against yet another South Region foe with Eckerd College coming to the Rubin Arena to play at 2 pm.
