MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The No. 25 ranked Sailfish volleyball team traveled to Miami Shores to take on South Florida rival Barry University on Tuesday night and came away with a dominating 3-0 victory over the Buccaneers.
Palm Beach Atlantic stretches their perfect streak to start the season to 13 games, while Barry falls to 8-3. PBA turned aside the Buccs by scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-19.
It took little time for the ‘Fish to flex their muscles, hitting .379 in the first set with 15 kills and only four errors. With the score at 12-10 in the first game, PBA leapt ahead behind the service prowess of Faith Rohn, Susie Forbes and Melissa Buckingham.
Emma Ballantyne started off hot with five kills and then rolled her way to a team-high of 12 for the game. The first win led to an even wider margin in the second set, with the Sailfish hitting an even .300 and winning by a 12-point margin.
The final set was as close as Barry would get on the night, as Palm Beach Atlantic pulled away late for the six point victory.
Faith Rohn finished the match with nine kills and 10 digs to go along with three service aces, while Katie Ballantyne added seven kills and Sarah Ragland notched six with only one error. Senior setter Becca Acevedo came through for the ‘Fish once again, passing out 35 assists for the game.
PBA’s blocking was a key factor in the win during the match, as the Sailfish totaled 21 total blocks (1 BS, 19 BA). Ragland had the lone solo block and added six block assists, while junior Stephany Brown totaled five block assists.
The Sailfish return to action on Saturday with a key matchup against Rollins College in the Rubin Arena at 4 PM.
