AIKEN, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic announced their presence with authority on day two of the USC-Aiken Tournament, sweeping their way through action against Limestone College and host USC-Aiken on Saturday afternoon to improve to 9-0 on the season.
GAME ONE
PBA made quick work of Limestone to open up Saturday’s action, taking down the Saints in straight sets, 25-12, 25-10, and 25-21.
Both first and second sets started with PBA going on 5-0 runs, with the Sailfish dominating the entire way. The ‘Fish hit .520 in the first set, led by Emma Ballantyne (5 kills, .714 attack percentage) and Katie Ballantyne (4 kills, .429 attack percentage). The second set was more of the same, as Palm Beach Atlantic started the game on a 19-1 run and hit .304 for the set.
The final set was much closer in the final score, but the Sailfish were in control the entire way, riding five kills from Faith Rohn to the victory.
Rohn led the way on the attack for PBA, finishing with 10 kills and a .474 attack percentage. Emma Ballantyne followed up with eight kills and a .500 attack mark, while Stephany Brown and Katie Ballantyne both finished with six kills. Senior Becca Acevedo had 29 assists in the match, while libero Rachael Holehouse led the team with 12 digs.
GAME TWO
Palm Beach Atlantic’s last match of the tournament against host USC-Aiken started off evenly, but the Sailfish attack took their game to a new level against the Pacers. They finished with 17 kills on 32 attacks with just three errors, and also owned the net with four total blocks on the way to a 25-12 set victory.
That would be a trend that continued throughout the entirety of the match, as the Sailfish finished with 18 total blocks in the three sets. PBA would go on to win Set Two 25-19 and Set Three 25-16.
It was another strong game Faith Rohn, who finished with 15 kills and 10 digs. Stephany Brown and Emma Ballantyne notched identical stat lines of nine kills on 15 attacks and just one error. Setter Becca Acevedo finished with 42 assists but also added six total blocks. Joining the block party was Sarah Ragland who had five (along with five kills) and Emma Ballantyne who had four.
All-Tournament teams will be announced at the conclusion of the tournament.
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action against Palm Beach County foe Lynn University on Tuesday, September 16th at 7 PM. The Sailfish will return to the Rubin Arena on Wednesday, September 17th at 7 PM taking on cross-town rival Northwood University.
