LAKELAND, Fla. – In what was a highly anticipated matchup between AVCA No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 16 ranked Florida Southern, the Sailfish fell flat on Tuesday evening, getting swept in straight sets at the Jenkins Field House.
The first set would be the only close one for the night, as the ‘Fish and Mocs traded punches throughout its entirety. PBA held a 21-17 lead late in the set, but FSC came storming back and eventually took the set 25-22.
Set two moved the momentum clearly to the Florida Southern side, as the hosts jumped ahead early and never looked back. The Sailfish only managed a .040 attack percentage for the set, and also had two service and reception errors, ultimately falling 25-21.
After PBA climbed back into the game at the end of set two, the momentum hung in the balance for the contest. Florida Southern took away any chance for a comeback by jumping out to a 9-1 lead and they never looked back. Palm Beach Atlantic hit -.119 for the set and lost 25-8.
Faith Rohn led the Sailfish with seven kills on the night, while Sarah Ragland added six. Rachael Holehouse finished with 14 digs, while Rohn added 13 and Melissa Buckingham put up 12.
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Thursday night for the final home game of the season. They’ll play host to Saint Leo University at 7 pm from the Rubin Arena.
