Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic’s AVCA No. 19 ranked volleyball team traveled north to take on the always tough Rollins College Tars and came away with a hard-fought three-set sweep on Saturday afternoon from the Warden Arena.
After narrowly defeating the Tars in five at the Rubin Arena earlier in the season, PBA battled their way to the season sweep winning each set on the afternoon by scores of 25-22.
Palm Beach Atlantic came out slow to start the match, falling behind 7-3 before the combination of Stephany Brown, Faith Rohn and Emma Ballantyne took over. Stephany knocked out five kills during the opening set, while Faith and Emma each had four, as the Sailfish inched ahead and pulled out the first set victory.
Set two was nearly a mirror image of the first set, as PBA fell behind early, trailing 4-0 and 7-3 to start. As the set continued, the Sailfish once again climbed back into the match and eventually overtook Rollins by an 18-15 score on the heels of a Rohn kill. Palm Beach Atlantic would ride that three-point lead to the final point.
The final set was a back-and-forth battle that featured a five-point RC lead at 15-10 and a voracious comeback by PBA that tied the game at 17-17. After back-to-back Sailfish points, the two squads traded points the rest of the way until an Emma Ballantyne kill ended the game and gave Palm Beach Atlantic the sweep.
Rohn led all players with 14 kills while Brown and Emma Ballantyne finished with ten kills apiece. Setter Becca Acevedo had an astounding 41 assists, while libero Rachael Holehouse turned in a game-high 18 digs. Rohn and Acevedo also added 17 and 12 digs apiece.
PBA returns to action on Tuesday evening taking on Florida Southern College in Lakeland at 7 pm.
